What's a cookie?

Cookies are used by nearly all websites and do not harm your system. A cookie is a text-only string of information that a website transfers to the cookie file of the browser on your computer’s hard disk so the website can remember who you are. A cookie will typically contain the name of the domain from which the cookie has come, the ‘lifetime’ of the cookie, and a value, usually a randomly generated unique number. When you revisit a website, cookies can present tailored options for you based on the information stored about your last visit. Cookies can also be used to analyse website traffic and for advertising/marketing purposes.

Managing Cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control the cookies stored on your computer through your browser settings and you can choose to block cookies at any time. However, if you use your browser settings to block cookies, your browsing experience may be hampered and you may not be able to access certain parts of our website. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been stored and how to manage and delete them, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org/

How do we use cookies and what type of cookies are used on this website?

We use cookies to track your use of our website, in order to understand how you use it, and track any patterns with regards to that use. All data passed by cookies is anonymous and will never contain individual detail such as your name, address, telephone number or payment information but may contain our customer reference number that is unique to you. Cookies enable us to develop and improve our website.

  1. Session cookies
Session cookies are only stored on your computer for the duration of your visit to our website and are automatically deleted when you close your browser. They usually store anonymous session IDs allowing you to browse a website without having to log in to each and every page. They also allow you to add an item to the basket and then move through the checkout process. Blocking these cookies via your web browser will mean you are unable to make a booking on this website.
  2. Persistent cookies
Persistent cookies remember you for a set period of time. These cookies are stored as files on your computer and remain there when you close your web browser. This type of cookie can be read by the website that created it when you revisit that website. We mainly use persistent cookies for Google Analytics but persistent cookies are also used if you select the ‘Remember me’ option on log in and with some functionality within our booking system.
  3. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential to enable you to use our website effectively, such as when buying a product and / or service, and therefore cannot be turned off. Without these cookies, the services available to you on our website cannot be provided. These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing purposes or remembering where you have been on the internet.
  4. Performance cookies
These cookies enable us to monitor and improve the performance of our website. For example, they allow us to count visits, identify traffic sources and see which parts of the site are most popular.
  5. Functionality cookies
These cookies allow our website to remember choices you make and provide enhanced features. For instance, we may be able to provide you with news or updates relevant to the services you use. They may also be used to provide services you have requested such as viewing a video or commenting on a blog. The information these cookies collect is usually anonymised.
WooCommerce

Our website uses eCommerce software provided by WooCommerce. When you make a purchase on our website, WooCommerce makes use of three cookies to keep track of your basket/cart data:

  • woocommerce_cart_hash
  • woocommerce_items_in_cart
  • Wp_woocommerce_session_

The first two cookies contain information about your basket/cart as a whole and help WooCommerce know when the basket/cart data changes. The final cookie contains a unique code for each customer so the website knows where to find the basket/cart data in the database for each customer. No personal information is stored within these cookies.

Google Analytics

The cookies currently in place for Google Analytics are used to support analysis and understanding of how people interact with our website. We perform this analysis to help us improve the usage and effectiveness of the website. The data collection and reporting behind this analysis is currently provided by Google Analytics. In order to provide website visitors with more choice on how data is collected by Google Analytics, Google has developed the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to stop data being sent to Google Analytics. The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on does not affect usage of the website in any other way. A link to further information on the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on is provided here:

These buttons can, in some cases, utilise cookies to identify when a user has shared a piece of content and track the popularity of that content. Third party cookies are not set directly by us or stored by us for analysis however, they may be dropped onto your computer by a third party when you use our website and choose to share our content. As third party cookies are not set by us, we cannot control how they work. Privacy implications vary and will be dependent on the privacy settings you have chosen on each social network.
